RTÉ to Show Republic of Ireland’s UEFA Nations League Matches with Minimal Coverage

RTÉ will show the Republic of Ireland’s UEFA Nations League double-header against Israel – but only in the most basic form required by contract.

The broadcaster has confirmed it will deliver “stripped back” coverage of both fixtures, with no studio show, no RTÉ commentary team, and no pundits.

Ireland face Israel in Debrecen, Hungary, on 27 September in what is officially the away leg, before the return game on 4 October in Backa Topola, Serbia. RTÉ is obliged under its rights agreement to broadcast both matches, and will do so, but only with a skeleton operation.

There will be no host or panel in Dublin, and no bespoke Irish commentary. Instead, viewers will hear the international feed commentary supplied at the venue. A minimal technical crew from RTÉ will be on duty simply to ensure the pictures go to air.

RTÉ has also confirmed it has not sold any advertising or sponsorship around either game.

While the live coverage will be bare-bones, the broadcaster says there will still be news reporting of the matches themselves and of the wider events surrounding them.
