Liverpool Makes £50m Move for Sarr Amid Forward Crisis

Liverpool have moved for Crystal Palace winger Sarr with a £50 million offer after abandoning their chase for Minteh, according to the Mirror, as the clock ticks down on the transfer window.

Two Liverpool bids for Minteh were rejected by Brighton, both falling well short of the south-coast club’s firm £70m valuation. With just five days left before Monday’s deadline, Liverpool have pivoted decisively to Sarr, a player who, by all accounts, is eager to make the switch to Anfield.

This is not a luxury hunt. It’s a scramble born of loss.

The club has been rocked by the tragic death of Diogo Jota and then stripped of Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah in quick succession. Three frontline wide forwards gone. For a side built on width, speed and relentlessness, the flanks have suddenly become a problem area rather than a weapon.

No surprise, then, that Sarr has shot to the top of the list.

The 28-year-old joined Crystal Palace two years ago and has built a compelling case over the past season. He made 45 appearances in all competitions last term, scoring 21 goals and adding two assists, driving Palace to UEFA Europa Conference League glory. On top of that, he carried his form into the summer, starring at the World Cup and scoring four times before Senegal went out to Belgium in the round of 32.

Those numbers have not gone unnoticed. Nor is Liverpool alone.

Foot Mercato reports that Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal and Turkish champions Galatasaray are both firmly in the race for Sarr. Galatasaray are said to be in advanced talks, pushing hard to close a deal, while Al-Hilal are keeping a close eye on developments and stand ready to move.

Liverpool’s bid, then, lands in the middle of a three-way tug of war.

Manager Iraola has made little effort to hide his concern over squad depth as the window winds down. With Tottenham and Manchester City circling Cody Gakpo, the sense of vulnerability in Liverpool’s attacking options has only sharpened.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Iraola laid out the reality of the final stretch of the market. "Some deals you have to wait until the end. But the end is the important picture, the one we will have on September 1, because it is true that we are still quite thin." He admitted he had wanted every position doubled with top-level options before the season kicked off, but accepted that he now has to adjust to what the market allows.

Liverpool have chosen their late-window swing. A £50m bid on a proven, in-form wide forward, with rivals already at the table.

Now the question is simple: does Sarr’s next decisive run come in red at Anfield, or somewhere else entirely?
