Bristol City Bounces Back with 1-0 Win Over Watford

Michael Skubala hailed Bristol City’s response to adversity after they ground out a 1-0 win over Watford, ending a run of two straight defeats and delivering the clean sheet he had demanded.

Coming off those back-to-back losses, this felt like a test of character as much as quality. Skubala liked what he saw.

"I'm really proud of the boys, it's not easy to go off two losses and to bounce back," he told BBC Radio Bristol, his satisfaction clear after a tight, hard-fought contest. He highlighted not just the result, but the way his side embraced the battle: "I thought they showed some good moments, some real character to defend well at times, to attack the game."

This was not a night for the usual starters alone. Skubala shuffled his pack, leaned on his squad players and got the reaction he wanted.

"Also, lots of changes for the lads that haven't played many minutes – I thought they showed today as a good group, a true group and a squad," he said. Those on the fringes stepped into the spotlight and held their nerve, a point their manager was keen to underline.

"We have to be proud of the guys, who have come in and put a performance in, who haven't had so many minutes but we're going to need them all," he added, making it clear this campaign will not be carried by a core of 11.

The clean sheet mattered almost as much as the three points. Bristol City have not had enough of them for Skubala’s liking, and he set that challenge before kick-off.

"The lads were challenged with getting a clean sheet because we haven't had enough of them so I'm really proud of that because it just shows the growth we're going through."

A narrow win, a shutout, and a squad answering the call after two bruising defeats. Skubala will expect this to be a starting point, not a one-off.
