Liverpool Pursue Major Deal for Bradley Barcola

Liverpool are edging towards a major deal, but the clock is ticking loudly over Anfield.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano says the club are “continuing their talks” with Paris Saint-Germain for Bradley Barcola and expects Liverpool to “accelerate” the move in the coming days. After weeks of back-and-forth, it finally sounds like Liverpool are ready to put their foot down on a transfer that has dragged on all summer.

They badly need to.

Richard Hughes is nearing the end of his spell as sporting director, with a move to Al Hilal looming. His tenure has been anything but dull. Liverpool went from the high of another Premier League title to chaotic windows in which top targets slipped away in public view.

Transfer Challenges

In his first summer, it was Martin Zubimendi who got away. In his third, Yan Diomande. The second window brought more success, with several priority signings arriving, yet too many of those additions are still fighting to justify their price tags. The sense of unease has grown with every underwhelming performance and every stalled negotiation.

Supporters want to see a plan. A clear blueprint. A recruitment chief who knows the profile he wants, has backups ready, and moves before the market does. Instead, the last few weeks have felt disjointed. At times, Liverpool have looked like they are throwing darts in the dark and praying something lands.

The timing could hardly be worse. The Premier League season is just hours away, yet the squad still looks unfinished. There are holes across the pitch and, crucially, Andoni Iraola does not yet have the full set of players he needs to stamp his style on this team.

This is not the summer Liverpool imagined.

Barcola Negotiations

Barcola has become the symbol of that tension. Talks with PSG have stretched on for weeks, possibly months, with no agreement. It now feels like a straight stare-down: who blinks first? That is a dangerous game when your squad already looks short on depth and your first league game is on the horizon.

Even if Barcola does arrive, he will not be the cure-all. Liverpool still need another winger who can operate on the right, especially after the departure of Mohamed Salah left a gaping hole in both goals and personality in the final third.

Ibrahim Mbaye has been floated as one possible solution, but senior figures at Liverpool have cooled that idea, insisting there is nothing advanced on that front. For now, any interest remains exploratory rather than concrete.

So the core problem remains. Liverpool need reinforcements. They need them now. And the realistic pool of options is shrinking with every passing day.

Against that backdrop, Romano’s update offers a sliver of clarity. Liverpool are still at the table with PSG. They are preparing to push harder. The expectation is that, after all this wrangling, an agreement for Barcola is finally close.

If they get it done, it will be a huge move. The question is whether it arrives in time to steady a window that has already veered too close to chaos.
