Ismaila Sarr's Injury Impact on Transfer Speculation

Pierre Sage insists Ismaila Sarr will not be leaving Crystal Palace easily – despite Liverpool circling and Galatasaray already being knocked back twice.

The Senegal winger, absent from Palace’s Premier League opener at Everton, has attracted concrete interest in the final weeks of the window, but his new head coach moved to shut down talk of a transfer stand-off and made it clear: for now, Sarr is going nowhere.

Sage: “He is injured… he is in pain”

Sarr’s omission from the squad at Goodison Park and from open training this week sparked suggestions he was keeping himself out of the picture to engineer a move. Sage cut that narrative down quickly.

“Ismaila Sarr is injured. He is in pain with his groin – that’s why you didn’t see him with us today,” he said. “He is in individual training because he is really in pain with his groin. But we’ll prepare him, he needs time.”

The 28-year-old, who still has three years left on his contract, will also miss Friday night’s home game against Manchester City. On that point, Sage was blunt: “No chance (he plays against City).”

The Frenchman admitted he had expected a quicker recovery but stressed the medical team, not the speculation, is dictating the timetable.

“I thought it would be quicker, but I am not a doctor. That is why I wait for him and we prepare for him to come back with us.”

Liverpool interest, Galatasaray bids – and a grounded manager

Behind the injury, the noise has been relentless. Liverpool have made an approach. Galatasaray have already seen two bids rejected. For a player of Sarr’s profile, that kind of attention can rattle the calm of any dressing room.

Sage knows it. He has spoken to Sarr repeatedly this week and says he sympathises with the forward’s position without questioning his professionalism.

“I understand that for everybody to have this kind of contact is difficult, because you hesitate a lot. But for the moment, he is with us. He is under contract,” Sage explained.

“He is injured and maybe you can make a link between his injury and the situation. But for me, he is honest and I have no problem with that. I spoke with him this morning about that, yesterday about that, too. And we just want him on the pitch.”

The Liverpool link, he admitted, is not something a player can simply ignore.

“It’s always difficult for a player when your name is associated with a club like Liverpool,” Sage said.

Transfer window “noise” and a firm stance

The Palace boss did not hide his frustration with the chaos that engulfs clubs during the window, from agents to families to the constant swirl of rumour.

“Football is like this now, we know when it is the transfer window that there is a lot of noise, a lot of stuff for the player,” he said. “Maybe some of them are not really comfortable with this situation – and their agent, too, their family. That’s why it is not really a good period when you are inside in a club, but you know when it is finished we will only be concerned with our performances. We just have to wait for that.”

Beneath that noise, Sage’s position is clear. With three years left on Sarr’s deal, Palace hold a strong hand.

“For the moment, yeah,” he replied when asked if he expects Sarr to stay. “Because when you have three years on the contract, it is not easy to leave.”

For Sage, the priority is short and sharp: get Sarr fit, get him back on the grass, let others argue about his future.

“For the moment, the most important thing is to understand the player is not able to play and is in treatment, and what happens with his potential future is really far from me.”

The window will close soon enough. Then the question will be simple: will Sarr be driving Palace’s season from the wing, or will that Liverpool link finally turn into something far more concrete?
