Brian Sorensen Joins Republic of Ireland Women’s Football Team

Brian Sorensen is set for a swift return to international football, with the former Everton manager poised to join the Republic of Ireland women’s set-up for their World Cup play-off campaign later this year.

He is expected to come in as assistant coach, forming part of a revamped backroom team alongside Liverpool coach Amber Whiteley. The move adds significant WSL experience to Ireland’s bench at a crucial moment in their qualifying journey.

Sorensen will combine the role with his current position as technical director of Aston Villa Women, linking up with the national side during international windows. It means a reunion of sorts with manager Carla Ward, who went head-to-head with Sorensen in the Women’s Super League when she was in charge of Villa and he led Everton.

Upcoming Play-offs

Ireland face Kazakhstan in the first round of the Women’s World Cup play-offs, a two-legged tie scheduled for 9 and 13 October. With a place in the next phase on the line and pressure mounting, Ward will now have another familiar voice at her side as Ireland chase a return to the biggest stage.
