Tottenham's Transfer Spree: Savinho and Marmoush In, Gakpo Next?

Tottenham’s transfer spree is already eye‑watering. It might be about to get even louder.

Savinho is in, Omar Marmoush is close, and the numbers are staggering: an £85m deal agreed with Manchester City for Savinho and a summer outlay that could push towards £400m once Marmoush signs off. Yet the sense around the club is that this is not the end of the story.

Two wingers, one striker – and maybe more

Fabrizio Romano set the framework on Thursday. Tottenham’s plan, he said, is clear: two wingers and a central striker. Savinho and Cody Gakpo are the wide targets. The No 9? That role is being lined up for Marmoush.

Spurs have moved fast. Savinho is done. Attention has swung to Marmoush, with the Egypt international having already agreed personal terms on a five-year contract and, by all accounts, eager to work under Roberto De Zerbi. Negotiations between Tottenham and his club are described as “very close”, with an agreement expected in the coming days.

That alone would represent a seismic attacking rebuild. Yet one leading voice believes there is still another twist coming.

“May yet go bigger”

According to The Independent’s chief football writer Miguel Delaney, Tottenham “may yet go bigger than Savinho and Omar Marmoush”. In the context of Romano’s earlier outline, the obvious name is Gakpo.

Spurs have been circling the Dutchman all summer. The noise around Marmoush has dominated the last few days, but Gakpo has never really slipped off the radar. Romano has been adamant that the winger’s situation remains live.

“It’s not over at all, the summer transfer window for Tottenham. I always told you Savinho, Gakpo, and a central striker. Savinho is done. Gakpo: we will talk in the next few days,” he said.

If it is not Gakpo, then Tottenham could be working on another attacking option entirely out of sight, a target who has not yet surfaced in the usual rumour mill.

With the window now entering its final week, the cloak will have to come off soon enough.

Gakpo deal hinges on Liverpool’s next moves

For Gakpo, several pieces still need to fall into place.

Personal terms are not the issue. Gakpo has already agreed them with Tottenham and is understood to be very keen on the move. The obstacle is Liverpool, who have treated him as part of their plans and have been extremely tough to draw into negotiations.

His form in pre-season has only strengthened their stance. Gakpo impressed over the summer, and there is a strong belief at Anfield that new manager Andoni Iraola can elevate his game further. That optimism has cooled talk of a sale and left Spurs waiting.

Tottenham have not yet put an offer on the table. That could change quickly if Liverpool complete deals for Paris Saint-Germain duo Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye. Either arrival would ramp up competition in Gakpo’s area of the pitch and might shift Liverpool’s thinking.

For now, Spurs have Savinho secured, Marmoush almost through the door and a war chest still open. The question hanging over the final days of the window is simple: does Daniel Levy stop at “big” – or does he go bigger still?
