Tchouameni Faces Future Decisions Amid Madrid Reshuffle

Aurelien Tchouameni was one of the few Real Madrid midfielders to emerge from last season with credit. That hasn’t spared him from the uncertainty of Jose Mourinho’s first summer in charge at the Bernabeu.

The Frenchman, currently nursing an injury on international duty ahead of France’s quarter-final against Morocco, now finds himself at the centre of a serious push from Manchester United.

United move after Casemiro exit

United’s need in midfield is no longer theoretical. Casemiro has gone to Inter Miami, leaving a sizeable hole at the base of their midfield and a fanbase demanding a statement signing.

According to Jose Felix Diaz, speaking on Ruben Martin’s livestream, United are ready to put “significant money” on the table and commit to a five-year contract for Tchouameni. Internal plans had initially revolved around Mateus Fernandes, but the Portuguese midfielder has already joined Tottenham from West Ham, forcing a change of course at Old Trafford.

The response has been swift. Tchouameni has jumped to the top of the list, and first contacts over a deal that would rank among the biggest of this transfer window are expected in the coming days.

For United, it is simple: secure a long-term anchor for their midfield, in his prime years, and build around him.

Stay and fight in Madrid, or lead at Old Trafford?

From Madrid’s side, the picture is more nuanced. Tchouameni was among their better performers last season and, crucially, he wants to stay. He sees himself at the Bernabeu, fighting for his place in a crowded, elite midfield.

But the landscape is shifting. Madrid are exploring the market for another central midfielder, with Enzo Fernandez high on their list. That kind of signing would reshape the hierarchy in the middle of the pitch and could squeeze minutes in a sector already stacked with talent.

The pull from England is obvious. At United, Tchouameni would walk into a more prominent role and a league that amplifies status and influence. At Madrid, he remains part of a rotation that could get even tighter.

For now, his focus has to be more immediate. He picked up a knock before France’s Round of 16 tie against Paraguay and is a doubt for the clash with Morocco, with Manu Kone ready to step in if required. Any decision on his club future will run parallel to his battle to get fully fit.

How long that parallel track lasts depends on how quickly United’s interest turns into a formal offer Madrid cannot ignore.

Arbeloa’s Fulham turn to Madrid for reinforcements

While Mourinho reshapes Madrid from within, another familiar face is looking towards the Bernabeu from England.

Alvaro Arbeloa, the former Real Madrid defender and youth coach, has taken over at Fulham on a three-year contract. Barely through the door at Craven Cottage, he has already set his sights on three players he knows well: Franco Mastantuono, Fran Garcia and Gonzalo Garcia.

According to Nizaar Kinsella on BBC Sport, Arbeloa wants all three for his new project, with one arriving on loan and two on permanent deals.

The plan is clear. Fulham would look to bring Mastantuono on loan, while pushing to sign Fran and Gonzalo outright. For a manager keen to impose his ideas quickly, turning to players he understands and trusts is a logical first step.

Three players, three different dilemmas for Madrid

For Madrid, these are not three identical files to rubber-stamp.

Fran Garcia’s situation is already advanced elsewhere. He has been heavily linked with Real Betis, with a €4 million move progressing and expected to be completed soon. The arrival of Marc Cucurella and the presence of Alvaro Carreras have effectively blocked his path to meaningful minutes at the Bernabeu, making a sale more straightforward.

The other two are more delicate. Gonzalo Garcia and Mastantuono are currently in Mourinho’s plans, at least until the end of pre-season. The Portuguese coach wants to see both up close before deciding whether to integrate them, loan them, or cash in.

Loaning Mastantuono to Fulham would be one thing: a controlled step into the Premier League, valuable experience if Madrid judge his short-term opportunities to be limited. Selling Gonzalo would be another matter entirely, a permanent call on a young talent whose ceiling is still being measured.

Any deal for Fran or Gonzalo must make sense financially and in terms of squad depth. Madrid’s squad churn under Mourinho will be ruthless, but not reckless.

There is, however, a subtle advantage in all this. Having a trusted former Madrid figure in a Premier League dugout, actively interested in players whose futures need resolving, offers the club a useful outlet and a familiar environment for their prospects.

Now it comes down to hard decisions in the offices at Valdebebas. How much change can Madrid push through in one summer without losing too much of tomorrow?
