Search for Missing Former Premier League Star Ákos Buzsáky

Hungarian police are searching for former Queens Park Rangers midfielder Akos Buzsáky after the one-time Premier League player was reported missing more than a week ago.

Authorities officially launched the search on August 18, with police records confirming efforts to locate the 44-year-old, as reported by The Sun. There has been no public indication so far of where he was last seen.

From Premier League Midfielder to Contractor in Greece

Buzsáky, once a regular name on English team sheets, built his reputation with Plymouth Argyle before moving to Queens Park Rangers, where he became a fans’ favourite. He featured for QPR in the 2011/12 Premier League season, scoring twice in the top flight.

Before that, he had already carved out a solid career in the Championship, his left foot and set-piece delivery making him a standout in the late 2000s and early 2010s. He also represented Hungary at international level, adding a national-team chapter to a career largely spent in English football.

He ended his professional playing days at Portsmouth in League One, calling time on his career in 2013.

Once the boots were hung up, his life moved away from the stadiums and cameras. Reports state that Buzsáky shifted into construction contracting, spending long stretches in Greece for work and basing much of his recent life there.

Family Caught Off Guard by Search

The search has taken a deeply personal turn for his family.

His father, Ákos Buzsáky Sr., said he did not even know police were looking for his son until Hungarian outlet Blikk contacted him. Speaking to the publication, he explained that he had no idea a missing person report had been filed or that authorities were involved.

"I didn't know that the police were also looking for my son. He basically spends a lot of time in Greece, where he works as a construction contractor. He spent almost the entire last year there," he said.

Reports also state that Buzsáky no longer lives with the mother of his two daughters. His own mother has been trying to find him in recent days and is believed to be the person who first reported him missing to the authorities.

For now, the questions outnumber the answers. A familiar name from English football’s recent past has simply disappeared from view, and a family waits for news.

Another Blow for the Football Community

The concern over Buzsáky comes in the same period the sport has been mourning another loss.

Former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Quevin Castro recently died after collapsing during a pre-season friendly in Portugal. He was just 25. Days before his death, he had celebrated his birthday, a stark reminder of how quickly a young career and a young life can be cut short.
