Ronan Curtis Back to Fully Fit Best After Knee Surgery

Ronan Curtis insists he is back to “fully fit best” after summer knee surgery – and his start to the season for Plymouth Argyle backs that up.

The 30-year-old winger, who made his move from Port Vale permanent in January, went under the knife in the close season to finally sort a nagging meniscus problem. He had played through the issue throughout last year, scoring twice in 23 appearances in all competitions, but admitted the pain and swelling had become a constant battle.

“The knee’s good,” he told BBC South West, a simple verdict after a complicated year.

He explained that the damage dated back to last pre-season, a slight tear that he chose to manage rather than fix as Argyle pushed through the campaign.

He got through it with painkillers and careful management. The joint would swell, the tablets would pile up, but he kept going.

This summer he drew a line.

“It was something that I needed to get done in the summer because the odd time it would swell up and taking too many tablets to get me through games and stuff like that, but I’m all fit and healthy now.”

“I got the surgery in the summer… get the surgery and back to my fully fit best now. I have all faith in myself to come back stronger, fitter and much better.”

The early signs are strong. Curtis has started all five of Argyle’s League One fixtures so far, as the Pilgrims have opened with two wins and two defeats, and he has looked sharp enough to justify his own confidence.

After a year of managing pain, he now talks about trust in his body and faith in his form. For a winger who relies on sharp turns and explosive bursts, that changes everything about what this season can become.
