Rasmus Ankersen Steps Down as Southampton Director

Rasmus Ankersen has stepped down from his role as a director at Southampton, drawing a line under his formal day‑to‑day involvement at St Mary’s while remaining tied to the club as a co-owner.

The 42-year-old, a central figure in the Sport Republic project, will now move into the background at the Championship side. His influence at Southampton had already eased in recent seasons as he took on the presidency of Turkish club Goztepe, but he continued to have a hand in recruitment and strategic decisions.

Ankersen’s reputation was forged at Brentford, where he served from 2015 to 2021 during the club’s rise from Championship contenders to a Premier League outfit. That spell helped shape the data-driven, multi-club vision that underpins Sport Republic.

Sport Republic itself is controlled by Serbian businessman Dragan Solak, who holds the majority stake in Southampton. The group has built a growing portfolio, also owning a majority stake in French side Valenciennes and in Goztepe, who sit bottom of the Turkish Super Lig.

Ankersen may be stepping away from the boardroom at St Mary’s, but his fingerprints — and his shareholding — remain on a club still trying to plot its way back to the top flight.
