Plymouth Argyle Aim for Victory Against Blackpool

Plymouth Argyle head to the Fylde coast this afternoon with the wind very much at their backs, aiming to turn a strong start into something more substantial against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.

The Pilgrims have quietly pieced together an eye-catching run. Three wins from their last four League One outings, and not just narrow escapes either. At Home Park they have brushed aside Bradford City 2-0 and swept Barnsley away 3-0, results that have sharpened belief as much as they have improved the table.

Away from home, they showed a different kind of edge. In South Yorkshire on September 5, Argyle came through a chaotic contest at Doncaster Rovers, edging a 3-2 thriller to underline that they can trade punches on the road as well as control games in Devon.

Today’s assignment is a very different test. By the seaside, in the north-west, on their second-longest trip of the campaign. The round journey from Plymouth to Blackpool and back comes in at 642 miles, a physical reminder of the grind that comes with a League One season. Only the February trek to Bradford will take them further, and then only by a handful of miles.

The table shows the stakes. Argyle sit four places and two points above their hosts, with Blackpool lodged in 10th after a solid, if unspectacular, start. Ian Evatt’s side have split their six league games neatly: two wins, two draws, two defeats. It is a platform, not yet a surge.

Their last outing at Bloomfield Road captured that inconsistency in 90 frustrating minutes. Blackpool led twice against Bromley, Albie Morgan and Tom Bloxham each putting them in front, only to be pegged back on both occasions in a 2-2 draw. Control, then slippage. Promise, then regret.

That is the backdrop as Argyle arrive by the Irish Sea, miles from home, but carrying form, confidence and a chance to turn momentum into something more concrete against a side still searching for theirs.
