Andros Townsend's Wild Experience with a Pitch Roller in Thailand

Andros Townsend has survived cold Tuesday nights in Stoke. Now he can add something far stranger to the list: being run over by a pitch roller in Thailand.

The former England winger, now with PT Prachuap in Thai League 1, became an unlikely viral star on Saturday after footage emerged of a pre-match warm-up gone badly wrong at Pattani. Townsend, 35, was stretching on the touchline when a member of the home staff appeared to lose control of a heavy pitch roller.

The machine veered into the 13-cap England international, clattering into him and briefly trapping his left leg underneath. For a split second, it looked serious. Staff rushed in, the roller was halted, and Townsend was left on the turf, stunned.

He got up. He played on. He even came off the bench later in the game as Prachuap cruised to a 3-0 win.

Any lingering concern over his condition was quickly eased by Townsend himself. The regular ITV pundit turned the whole thing into content, leaning straight into the absurdity on Instagram.

Only days earlier he had posted a tongue-in-cheek comparison between a sun-soaked away day in Thailand and those famously grim trips to Stoke’s windswept stadium. This time, he doubled down.

“It turns out Stoke away wasn’t so bad after all. Swipe to see why,” he wrote on his Instagram story, directing followers to the clip of the roller incident.

Thai fans lapped it up. One post dubbed him “The King of Memes in Thai League history”. Townsend’s reply was short and perfectly in tune with the chaos: “trust me” – followed by four laughing emojis.

Stoke away might be cold. Thailand, it turns out, can be downright dangerous.
