The Magpies have been named among a cluster of clubs tracking the Club Brugge left-back, one of the standout young defenders in Belgium. At 21, Seys is already a full international and is drawing serious attention across Europe.

According to The Sun, Newcastle are in the mix alongside Manchester United, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Benfica and Porto. The outlet notes that Seys is “capturing attention from the likes of Aston Villa and Newcastle, as well as Portuguese giants Benfica and Porto.”

Seys has earned that interest on the pitch. He broke through as a regular for Club Brugge last season, making 25 league appearances and featuring nine times in the Champions League. That consistency at club level pushed him into Belgium’s World Cup squad this summer, and he saw action in the quarterfinal, coming off the bench in the defeat to eventual champion Spain.

Rivals move first

Here’s the problem for Newcastle: others have already made their move.

As it stands, their interest does not appear as advanced as that of some Premier League rivals. The Sun reports that Manchester United, Arsenal and Aston Villa have all formally checked on Seys’ availability after extensive scouting. No such formal inquiry from Newcastle is mentioned.

So while Newcastle’s name is firmly in the conversation, they may be playing catch-up if they decide Seys is the answer at left-back.

Any deal would require a major outlay.

Club Brugge hold a strong hand. Seys is under contract for another three years, and the Belgian side is said to be under no pressure to sell. The Sun reports that Brugge are set to demand around €35 million (£30m) for their rising star.

Newcastle are adamant that Lewis Hall is not for sale despite interest from Manchester United, which at least protects one side of Jaissle’s defense. But Tino Livramento’s injury, suffered on the verge of the World Cup, has stripped away another senior option and left the head coach short of fit, natural full-backs.

That reality sharpens the dilemma. Seys would give Newcastle another dynamic, long-term option at left-back and fit the club’s profile of recruiting players who can grow with the project. Yet the price, the competition, and the club’s immediate needs complicate the picture.

At €35 million (£30 million), Newcastle would be doubling down on youth again. The question now is whether they should keep pouring major fees into prospects like Seys, or pivot towards an experienced defender who can walk straight into the team and steady the back line from day one.

With the season looming and rivals already on the phone to Brugge, Newcastle’s next move at full-back will say plenty about what kind of team they want to be right now: one for tomorrow, or one ready to win today.
