Manchester City to Sign Ayyoub Bouaddi for £85.6m

Manchester City have struck an agreement in principle worth 100m euros (£85.6m) to sign Lille’s 18-year-old midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, as the Premier League champions rip up and rebuild the heart of their midfield.

BBC Sport revealed earlier in the week that talks between the clubs had moved into an advanced stage. Those negotiations have now produced a deal: Bouaddi is set to join Enzo Maresca’s side, with Lille accepting an initial £81.4m fee, plus a further £4.2m in performance-related add-ons.

It ends a drawn-out pursuit of the Morocco international, who now prepares for a leap from Ligue 1 promise to the unforgiving demands of English football. For City, it is a statement move on a summer that has revolved around one area of the pitch.

The champions have already cashed in on two major midfield figures. Rodri has joined Barcelona in a £65m transfer, while Tijjani Reinders has departed for Saudi Arabian club Al-Qadsiah in a £52m deal. Those exits ripped out experience and control from the centre of the pitch and forced City to act decisively.

They have not stopped at Bouaddi. City have already secured England midfielder Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest in a £116m move, underlining the scale of their investment and the urgency of their reset.

City’s recruitment drive in midfield is not yet over. They retain an interest in Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, though there is no agreement and no clarity yet on whether a deal will be possible.

For now, Bouaddi stands as the latest – and boldest – piece in Maresca’s new City core. The fee is huge, the expectation even bigger. How quickly the teenager adapts will shape what this new-look midfield, and perhaps City’s season, really becomes.
