Lucy O’Brien Signs New Deal with Ipswich Town
Ipswich Town have moved to secure one of their own. Attacker Lucy O’Brien has signed a new contract that keeps her at Portman Road through the 2026/27 season, extending a journey that began in the club’s academy and now runs straight through the heart of the first team.
The 22-year-old, a former England youth international, had been heading towards the end of her previous deal this summer. Ipswich have removed any doubt, tying down a player who has grown up in blue and white and now carries a key share of the attacking responsibility.
O’Brien has spent her entire senior career with Ipswich Town, progressing from the youth ranks into a side that has steadily raised its ambitions. She was part of the Tractor Girls squad that claimed the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division title in 2024/25, a landmark season for the club and a statement of where they intend to go.
Her development has not been confined to familiar surroundings. Last season she made 12 appearances in Barclays WSL2 for the Sussex side, valuable minutes at a higher level that sharpened her game and added another layer to her attacking craft.
Ipswich, sensing there is far more to come, have acted decisively. Fresh terms for another 12 months underline their belief that O’Brien’s best football is still ahead of her, and that it should be played in their colours.
“This club has been such a big part of my life since I first joined and I’m delighted to sign a new deal here.
“The team showed so much fight and togetherness last season and everyone is so eager to continue that progress and kick on in the year ahead.”
For Ipswich, keeping a homegrown attacker with title-winning experience and a taste of WSL2 football is more than a routine contract update. It is a nod to continuity, to identity, and to a core that knows exactly what it takes to win at this level.
More squad news will follow in due course. The message from Portman Road, though, is already clear enough: the foundations are staying in place.
