Liverpool's Summer Rebuild Begins with Munoz Signing
Liverpool’s summer rebuild has finally begun to take shape – but only just.
The window is open, the money is moving, and across the Premier League the big deals are already stacking up. At Anfield, though, the story so far is one of patience, selectivity and a single, headline signing.
Iraola era starts with Munoz
Victor Munoz is the first marker of the Andoni Iraola era. The Spanish winger has arrived for £34.5million, the new manager’s inaugural signing and, to this point, Liverpool’s only major piece of business.
It’s a deliberate start rather than a frantic overhaul. Munoz plugs straight into Iraola’s high-energy blueprint: a wide forward with pace, direct running and the kind of aggression off the ball that has defined the coach’s work elsewhere. One signing, but a clear statement of intent.
After that, the noise grows louder than the action.
Links everywhere, decisions nowhere… yet
Liverpool are being dragged into the rumour mill on a daily spin. Every morning seems to throw up a new name, a new angle, a new “priority target”.
This week it’s Mexico international Gilberto Mora drawing attention, his name added to a list that already includes Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola. The Barcola talk refuses to go away, the suggestion of a bold move into PSG territory hinting at the scale of player Liverpool are prepared to chase.
Not every pursuit is heading in their direction. A move for Yan Diomande now looks to be off the table, with claims the player would rather head to PSG. A reminder that even a club of Liverpool’s stature has to fight – and sometimes lose – battles in a market dominated by financial heavyweights.
Still, the carousel keeps spinning. Eduardo Camavinga. Said El Mala. Ayyoub Bouaddi. Antonio Nusa. A cluster of talents from different leagues, different profiles, but all loosely tied to the same idea: Liverpool looking to refresh, deepen and future-proof a squad that has already carried heavy miles.
It’s only Wednesday. The list will grow.
Iraola’s audit and the Anfield exit watch
While the speculation rages outside, Iraola’s real work is happening behind closed doors. He is deep into his assessment of the squad he has inherited, measuring who fits his pressing demands, who can adapt, and who might be better served moving on.
That brings Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott into sharp focus. Both have been linked with moves away from Anfield, their names floated as possible departures in a summer that could reshape the middle and attacking thirds. For two academy products who have grown up under the lights of this stadium, any exit would carry emotional weight as well as tactical consequence.
The clock on the new season is ticking louder. Pre-season plans are being drawn, systems drilled, roles defined. Munoz is in. Others are being courted. Some may be nudged towards the door.
The market will decide how ruthless Liverpool are prepared to be.
