Liverpool's Final Week Search for Attacking Solutions

Liverpool’s search for attacking answers is heading into the final week of the window with the clock roaring in their ears – and all eyes now on Yankuba Minteh.

The club are under pressure to finish their squad build with only days left before the season begins. Curtis Jones has departed, opening up a midfield slot, but the bigger hole remains on the right flank, where Mohamed Salah’s exit still hasn’t been properly addressed. The goals and chaos from that side of the pitch are gone. The replacement, so far, is not.

Liverpool appear to have settled on a target, at least for now. Minteh, currently on the books at Brighton, has become the focus after a series of late-window pivots. The Reds have already tested Brighton’s resolve twice. According to the Athletic, their second bid reached £60 million – and was still turned down.

That figure alone tells its own story. Push much higher and Liverpool walk straight into “overpaying” territory, especially for a winger whose record is mixed and who is out injured for three months. But with the deadline closing in, logic often loses the argument to urgency.

There is movement off the pitch, though. Minteh’s agent, Bakary Bojang, has added fuel to the fire by posting an image on his Instagram story showing himself preparing to board a plane, hinting at late-stage talks. It suggests Liverpool, Brighton and the player’s camp are at least ready to thrash out personal terms and structure, even if the fee remains a major obstacle.

The sense of chaos around Liverpool’s right-wing hunt is hard to ignore. They initially targeted Yan Diomande for the role. That plan faded. Then came a swing towards Ibrahim Mbaye a couple of weeks ago. Now the spotlight is on Minteh. Three different profiles, one position, and no clear resolution yet.

Still, this is where the club find themselves. If Minteh is the chosen one, he is being picked from what looks like a thin and imperfect market. Liverpool must decide whether he is worth the financial stretch and the patience required during his injury lay-off, or whether this is another late scramble they are better walking away from.

The final days of the window will give the verdict. Minteh could be the man walking through the doors at Anfield. Liverpool could turn back to Mbaye. They could rip up the list again. Or they might simply accept going into the season without a marquee right-sided signing.

With time almost gone, the next move will say a lot about how Liverpool see their attack – and how much risk they are willing to live with.
