Josh Yaro Loaned to AC Boise for 2026 Season

One of St. Louis CITY SC’s original pillars is on the move, at least for now.

The club has loaned 31-year-old defender Josh Yaro to USL League One side Athletic Club Boise for the remainder of the 2026 season, a shift that gives a locker-room leader the one thing he has struggled to find in MLS: regular minutes.

Yaro has been embedded in the St. Louis project from the start. He joined the organization in 2022 and quickly became a cornerstone for CITY2, anchoring the back line as the team surged to the inaugural MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference title. That run helped set the competitive tone for the expansion club’s leap into MLS and earned Yaro a place with the first team in 2023.

His influence, though, has never been limited to the pitch. Inside the building, Yaro has carried weight as a veteran presence, the kind of professional coaches trust and younger players lean on. Outside it, he has thrown himself into the city.

“Josh has been with the club from the beginning and has always been a great teammate, stepping up whenever needed both on and off the pitch,” Sporting Director Corey Wray said. “He has embraced the city and consistently made an impact through numerous community initiatives, which speaks to the person he is. We are excited that he now has an opportunity to get consistent minutes in a competitive team and wish him and AC Boise the best for the remainder of the season.”

That line about “consistent minutes” tells the story. St. Louis, deep and ambitious in central defense, could not guarantee him the rhythm a 31-year-old needs to stay sharp. Boise can.

For AC Boise, the move brings in a defender who has lived the grind of MLS and captained a back line in a title-winning environment. For Yaro, it is a chance to turn experience into impact again, week after week, in a league where his voice and timing at the back should carry serious weight.

He leaves St. Louis as more than a squad player. He goes as one of the faces of the club’s early years, a bridge from the developmental success of CITY2 to the bright lights of MLS.

Now he has a new back line to marshal, and a fresh season to shape, in Boise.
