Joël Piroe Joins West Ham United on Loan

Joël Piroe has left Leeds United on loan, joining fellow Sky Bet Championship side West Ham United for the rest of the 2026/27 campaign, as the London club sharpen their push for an immediate Premier League return.

The move sends one of the Championship’s most reliable finishers to the London Stadium at a crucial point in his career. Now 27, Piroe arrived at Elland Road from Swansea City in August 2023 on the back of a 19-goal haul, already carrying the reputation of a striker who rarely wastes chances.

He wasted no time backing that up in Leeds colours. Thrown straight into the side just two days after signing, he debuted against Ipswich Town in the second tier and marked the occasion with a goal, an early glimpse of the calm penalty-box presence Daniel Farke built his attack around.

That first season set the tone. Piroe featured 53 times in all competitions, scoring 16 goals and becoming a constant outlet in a side reshaped under Farke. He pressed, he linked play, and when the ball dropped in the area, he usually knew exactly where to put it.

The following year, his influence only grew. Across 48 appearances, Piroe struck 19 times as Leeds surged to the Championship title and sealed their return to the Premier League. His consistency in front of goal earned him the Golden Boot, underlining his status as one of the division’s standout forwards.

Now comes a different challenge. West Ham, relegated last season, are chasing promotion at the first attempt and have turned to Piroe to add proven cutting edge to their front line. For a club under pressure to climb straight back, a striker with his record offers both security and hope.
