Galatasaray's Bold Move for Bruno Fernandes

Galatasaray are preparing one of the boldest moves of the summer: a double-pronged assault to prise Bruno Fernandes away from Manchester United.

The Turkish champions, emboldened by their domestic dominance and the financial pull of Istanbul, are ready to test United’s resolve and the player’s loyalty with a package that would transform the Portugal star into one of the best-paid footballers in Europe.

Galatasaray’s big swing

According to reports from The Telegraph and journalist Ben Jacobs, Galatasaray are set to table a €50m (£42.8m) offer to United while putting a four-year contract on the table for Fernandes.

This is no tentative enquiry. Galatasaray president Dursun Özbek is described as “determined” to land United’s captain and build their next Champions League push around him.

The proposed deal is staggering: a four-year contract worth €21m (£18.3m) net per season, plus a €4m signing-on bonus. Thanks to Turkey’s favourable tax regime, that package would effectively double Fernandes’ current take-home pay at Old Trafford.

For a 31-year-old entering what is likely his final major contract, it is the kind of offer that forces a pause. At least on paper.

Contract clock ticking at Old Trafford

The timing is no accident. A £57m release clause in Fernandes’ previous deal has now expired, but his current contract only has 12 months left to run, with United holding an option to extend for a further year.

He is understood to be earning around £200,000 a week. That is significant money, but nowhere near what Galatasaray – and previously Saudi Arabia – have put in front of him.

Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal tried to tempt him away last summer with what were described as colossal financial terms. Fernandes turned them down, choosing instead to stay at Old Trafford and fight for more major honours with United.

That decision underlined his status not just as United’s creative heartbeat, but as one of the few senior figures fully aligned with the club’s ambitions in a turbulent era.

United’s stance: not for sale

Despite the contract situation and Galatasaray’s aggressive approach, the message from Manchester is blunt.

The Telegraph, BBC Sport and Ben Jacobs all report that United have no intention of selling Fernandes this summer, regardless of the size of the bid. Club officials view him as central to Michael Carrick’s plans and see no scenario in which they willingly cash in on their captain.

The strategy is clear: keep Fernandes, build around him, and allow Carrick to shape a squad that can return United to the elite level domestically and in Europe.

Sources close to the club insist that, even with serious interest emerging from abroad, United are prepared to hold their line.

Fernandes’ loyalty – for now

Crucially, the player himself is not agitating for a move. BBC Sport report that Fernandes’ priority remains to stay at Old Trafford. At 31, with options to earn far more elsewhere, he is still described as fiercely loyal to United.

He believes he has more to give in the Premier League and the Champions League before contemplating a late-career switch to a more lucrative, less competitive league.

There is an acceptance that, at some stage, a move for financial security could make sense for his family. But not yet. Not while he still feels he can shape big nights in England and Europe.

Galatasaray can put the money on the table. They can sell the project, the atmosphere at Rams Park, the chance to become the undisputed star of a title-winning side. They can even double his net salary.

What they cannot yet overcome is the combination of United’s refusal to sell and a captain who, for the moment, still sees his story at Old Trafford as unfinished.
