Harry Wilson Faces Race Against Time for Wales’ Nations League

Harry Wilson is facing a race against time to be fit for the start of Wales’ Nations League campaign after suffering a quadriceps injury with Leeds United.

The 29-year-old forward had been named in Craig Bellamy’s squad for a demanding return to League A, with fixtures against Portugal, Denmark and Norway lined up across September and October. Those plans have been thrown into doubt.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke revealed on Friday that Wilson will miss Sunday’s Premier League game at Elland Road against Crystal Palace after feeling muscle problems in the aftermath of his last outing and during training this week.

“Harry Wilson is out of this game, a quad injury, he reported some problems after the last game and also during this training week,” Farke said of the 69-cap international, who has scored 17 times for his country.

The concern does not stop at club level. Farke admitted the issue is serious enough that Wales are unlikely to be able to call on one of their most experienced attacking figures when they step back into Europe’s top tier.

“He will also probably miss the Welsh games, so definitely not good news for him and also not for the Welsh team,” Farke added.

For Bellamy, preparing to lead Wales into a Nations League group stacked with heavyweight opposition, the loss of Wilson would strip both goals and guile from his forward line at precisely the wrong moment.
