Dimarco Wins Serie A Player of the Year at Gran Gala del Calcio

Inter’s dominance of last season was given an official seal at the Gran Gala del Calcio, where the Nerazzurri walked away with the Serie A Club of the Year award and a heavy presence in the Team of the Season.

At the heart of it all stood Federico Dimarco. The wing-back, once a promising talent on the fringes, was voted Serie A Player of the Year by his fellow professionals – a peer-driven honour that underlines how far his game has come.

The Team of the Season read like a tribute to Inter’s power base, but also to the league’s brightest. The chosen XI featured Mile Svilar, Marco Palestra, Alessandro Bastoni, Manuel Akanji, Scott McTominay, Luka Modric, Hakan Calhanoglu, Nico Paz, Lautaro Martinez and Donyell Malen, with Inter colours scattered across the line-up.

Dimarco did not hide his emotion as he collected the biggest individual prize of the night. He spoke less like a man satisfied, more like one already chasing the next step.

“Receiving an award like this is unique,” he said. “Last year I set the assist record, and this season I want to improve even further.”

Those numbers, that end product, have become his calling card. But Dimarco pointed to a very different moment as the real turning point in his career: defeat on the biggest stage.

“My breakthrough? It all started after the lost Champions League final against PSG, which pushed us to give our absolute maximum,” he explained, framing that heartbreak as the spark for Inter’s resurgence and his own.

Lautaro Martinez, the captain and emotional barometer of this side, also took his place among the award winners. The Argentine forward, again recognised by his peers, underlined the collective strength behind the individual trophies.

“It is always an honour to receive votes from colleagues,” Lautaro said. “We have a great group and had a fantastic season.”

On a night of celebration, there was one discordant note. Dimarco revealed that, despite his performances and the recognition now pouring in, talks over a new contract with Inter have not yet begun.

“Renewal? Unfortunately, we haven’t spoken about it,” he admitted. “I hoped it would happen after last season’s performance.”

The admission cut through the gala gloss, hinting at a storyline that could grow louder if the situation drags on. For now, though, Dimarco insisted his priorities lie on the pitch, not at the negotiating table.

“Now I want to remain focused on the match against Napoli,” he added. “We haven’t been able to win against them for too long.”
