Rice is now the third-youngest player ever to reach 300 Premier League starts, with only Gareth Barry and Frank Lampard getting there at a younger age. Across three decades of the league, only four players have managed 300 starts before turning 28. Rice is one of them.

The numbers behind it underline just how relentlessly he has been trusted. Out of all his Premier League appearances, only 18 have come from the bench. Managers haven’t rotated him; they’ve built around him.
