Brian Sorensen Joins Republic of Ireland Women's Team as Assistant Coach

Brian Sorensen is set to step back into the international spotlight, with the former Everton manager poised to join the Republic of Ireland women’s set-up for their World Cup play-off push later this year.

The Dane is expected to be appointed assistant coach with the national team, forming part of a refreshed backroom staff that will also include Liverpool coach Amber Whiteley.

Sorensen will combine the role with his current job as technical director of Aston Villa Women. He is understood to be staying in his Villa post and linking up with Ireland only during international windows, adding another layer of elite experience to a staff already rich in Women’s Super League know-how.

There will be a familiar face on the training pitch. Sorensen will work under manager Carla Ward, who previously went head-to-head with his Everton side during her spell in charge of Villa in the WSL. That touchline rivalry now turns into a partnership as they attempt to steer Ireland through a high-pressure qualifying campaign.
