Barnsley Sign Connor O'Riordan on Loan to Strengthen Defence

Barnsley have moved to strengthen their defence with the season-long loan signing of Blackburn Rovers centre-back Connor O'Riordan, with an option to make the deal permanent next summer.

The 22-year-old, capped by Republic of Ireland at Under-21 level, knows League One well. He spent the first half of last season with Doncaster Rovers, gaining regular minutes before being recalled to Ewood Park in January.

Back at Blackburn, O'Riordan featured six times in all competitions for the Championship side, edging his way into the first-team picture but not yet nailing down a starting place.

Barnsley now offer him that platform. The Tykes are banking on his blend of youth, size and league experience, and if it clicks, they have the right to keep him beyond this campaign.

O'Riordan is in line to make his Barnsley debut on Saturday, when they travel to Leyton Orient.
