Barça’s head of scouting travelled to Arena da Baixada to watch Athletico vs. Bahia, with a clear mission: take a close look at the teenager who has quickly climbed from promising academy talent to full international. The interest was reported by ESPN.

Arthur’s rise has been abrupt and eye-catching. A product of Athletico’s own youth system, he only made his professional debut in 2025, but wasted no time making an impact. He played a part in Athletico’s push for promotion to Série A, then cemented his place at the heart of the defence.

This season, he has become a fixture. Athletico sit third in the Brasileirão table with 49 points, trailing only Flamengo (60) and Palmeiras (57), and Arthur has been central to that surge. In 2026, he has started all 32 of his appearances for Furacão, underlining both his consistency and the trust placed in him.

Ancelotti’s first squad after the World Cup offered a glimpse of Brazil’s next defensive generation, and Arthur was one of the surprises on the list. He joins a group of established and emerging center-backs: Gabriel Magalhães (Arsenal), Jair (Nottingham Forest), Marquinhos (PSG), and Vitor Reis (Manchester City).

For Barcelona, always alert to young South American talent, the profile is tempting: a teenage starter in a top Brazilian side, already tested in a promotion campaign, now breaking into the Seleção. The question is no longer whether Europe is coming for Arthur Dias.
