Atalanta's Perfect Start in Serie A: Clash with Roma Ahead

Atalanta hit the new league campaign at full speed, and Bergamo is already buzzing.

Two games at the Gewiss Stadium, two wins. First Sassuolo were brushed aside, then Bologna were beaten in far more dramatic fashion. The second victory came right at the death, when Samardzic found the decisive strike that sent the home crowd into a roar and lifted Atalanta level with Roma at the top of the table.

A perfect start on paper. On the pitch, it has been hard, intense, and already a little draining.

From the Zingonia training center, Maurizio Sarri cut a realistic figure as he looked ahead to the clash with the Giallorossi. No grand declarations, just a sharp warning and a hint of frustration about the schedule.

“Malen is in great form and will be a problem for the entire match,” he said, making it clear where a big part of the danger lies. The plan, though, hasn’t changed: “We’ve prepared normally; we’re the only team in Italy that plays five games in sixteen days tomorrow, but we’re having a few issues. Our growth has undoubtedly slowed.”

The numbers back him up. Five matches crammed into just over two weeks would stretch any squad, let alone one still trying to find rhythm and fluency. Atalanta have the points, but Sarri knows the performances still have room to grow.

Roma, though, offer no margin for error.

“They were strong and have become even stronger,” the coach admitted when asked about the Giallorossi. The respect was obvious, and so was his prediction: “They will fight for the Scudetto until the end, and I’d be surprised if the opposite happened.”

So Atalanta arrive at this early-season showdown with momentum, a late winner in their lungs, and fatigue in their legs. Roma arrive with title expectations on their shoulders.

For Sarri’s side, it already feels like more than just another game in this crowded run. It feels like the first real measure of how far this fast start can actually take them.
