Alejandro Balde Stays at Barcelona Amid Manchester United Interest

Alejandro Balde has made his stance clear. He wants to stay at Barcelona and fight for his place.

Inside the club, senior figures have been weighing up a possible sale of the 22-year-old in the final weeks of the window, but, according to Fabrizio Romano, only a “big proposal” from a top side will even bring them to the table. Until then, the ball sits firmly in Barcelona’s court.

Balde has told the hierarchy he intends to compete for a spot at Camp Nou rather than look for a move. The message is simple: he sees his future in Blaugrana colours. Any change now would have to be forced by money, not by the player.

United circle, but funds are tight

Manchester United are among the clubs to have tested the waters. After accepting that Lewis Hall is off-limits at Newcastle United, INEOS turned their search for a new left-back towards Spain and asked Barcelona what it would take to do business for Balde.

On paper, the fit is obvious. Balde already owns significant experience at the top level and in the Champions League, and United need reliable cover and competition for Luke Shaw.

The reality is more complicated. Reports indicate United can only realistically pursue a loan this late in the summer, with their midfield rebuild already swallowing around £148 million in upfront fees. That kind of structure is unlikely to tempt Barcelona, who know they could cash in properly if they decide to sell.

Barcelona’s hand strengthens

Balde’s desire to stay gives Barcelona leverage. If United are not prepared to put down a serious fee before the deadline, the Catalan club have every reason to hold their ground and keep a homegrown full-back who still has room to grow.

For INEOS, that probably means moving on. Other names are already on the shortlist: Racing Santander’s Jorge Salinas and RB Leipzig captain David Raum are both under consideration. Any move for them comes with its own complications, as their clubs would also need time to source replacements.

The clock is ticking. Each day lost narrows the options.

New-look United midfield, same left-back question

While the search for a left-back drags on, United’s midfield overhaul is already taking shape. Carlos Baleba was officially unveiled as a new signing on Tuesday evening, even though an ankle ligament injury picked up in pre-season will keep him out for the next few fixtures.

He joins Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans in what is now a rebuilt engine room for Michael Carrick this season. The core of the side has been refreshed. The flanks, though, still need work.

With Balde intent on staying put and Barcelona in no rush to sell without a huge offer, United’s left-back conundrum may yet go right to the wire.
