Wayne Rooney Launches New Manchester United Show with Mark Goldbridge

Wayne Rooney is set to front a new Manchester United-focused show this season, teaming up with influencer Mark Goldbridge in a move that pulls one of English football’s biggest names into the heart of fan-driven media.

The former United and England captain will co-host Stick to United with Wayne Rooney, a new programme built around the club that defined his career. Goldbridge, the face of The United Stand and That's Football, joins him on the show as the two worlds of traditional punditry and raw fan opinion collide on a single platform.

This isn’t a one-off experiment. The show sits at the centre of a major new distribution deal with Disney+, which will carry 50 episodes of Stick to United and 40 episodes of the existing Stick to Football series across the season. It marks a significant step into mainstream streaming for Gary Neville’s media venture, The Overlap.

Neville, who launched The Overlap in 2021, has steadily turned it from a straight football chat show into a growing sports network, branching into cricket and rugby while keeping football at its core. Bringing Goldbridge under that umbrella was a clear statement of intent.

Earlier this year, Neville bought Goldbridge’s YouTube channels in a seven-figure deal, adding The United Stand and That's Football to The Overlap network. Goldbridge – real name Brent di Cesare – commands more than 3.8 million followers across the two channels, his outspoken style and viral clips making him one of the most recognisable fan voices in the game.

Now those audiences meet Rooney, whose punditry on Stick to Football has already offered a more relaxed, revealing version of the former striker than viewers saw during his playing days. The new United-specific show pushes him even closer to the fanbase that once sang his name every week at Old Trafford.

Neville has been clear about what this partnership means, saying the Disney+ deal “expands our reach without compromising our identity”. For a project that started as long-form interviews and round-table chats, this latest move places The Overlap firmly in the battle for eyeballs on the biggest streaming stages.

There is a twist in all this. Neville once publicly took aim at the rise of fan channels, famously branding ArsenalFanTV “embarrassing” after its furious reaction to a 3-1 defeat by Chelsea in 2017, when supporters on the platform tore into then-manager Arsene Wenger. His comments sparked a heated exchange on Twitter, before he later appeared on the channel itself to explain his stance.

Years on, he now owns two of the most prominent fan-led football channels and is pairing one of them with a Manchester United legend to anchor a flagship show. The ecosystem he once challenged is now part of his business model.

Rooney, meanwhile, will not be short of screen time. The Wayne Rooney Show is set to return to BBC platforms this season, and he will continue in his role as a pundit on Match of the Day. Between the BBC, The Overlap, and Disney+, one of United’s greatest players is becoming one of its most visible voices.

For Manchester United supporters, that means something new: Wayne Rooney dissecting the club’s fortunes alongside the man who built a YouTube empire on reacting to them. How that dynamic plays out, with the cameras rolling and the season unfolding, will be must-watch in its own right.
