Estevao's Calm Amid Chelsea Frustration as Brazil Call-Up Highlights Talent

Estevao cuts a calm figure in a turbulent start to his Chelsea career. The 19-year-old has barely featured in the Premier League this season, yet he walks into the Brazil squad for the upcoming international break.

Nineteen, hyped, and largely watching from the bench. It is not the script many expected when he arrived at Stamford Bridge.

He is still waiting for his first league start under Xabi Alonso and has played just 27 minutes of top-flight football, all as a substitute. The numbers are modest, the expectation anything but.

The forward, though, refuses to let the situation drag him into a public battle for minutes.

“Every coach has their own way of playing,” Estevao said when asked about working under Alonso. “And of course, we work hard every day and give our best every single day. So that's what I do.”

No hint of complaint. No dig. Just a young player choosing his words as carefully as he chooses his touches.

Estevao knows the competition he faces. Chelsea’s squad is stacked with attacking talent, and breaking into that front line is a brutal task for any teenager.

“We have players of extreme quality at Chelsea,” he pointed out. “So what I do is focus on what I can, on what I can control. I try to give my best in training, and when I get the opportunity, I always give my best, and that goes day after day.”

The message is clear: he sees opportunity, not injustice.

“So, in all the opportunities that I get, and that I've had, I think I've seized a lot of those, taken on a lot of those responsibilities,” he added, underlining his belief that he has made an impact in the short bursts he has been given.

For now, his answer to limited game time is work. More of it. Quietly.

“So I try to control what I can, leave tomorrow in God's hands, and trust in my work.”

Brazil’s call-up is a reminder of how highly he is regarded beyond west London. The next question is whether Chelsea will soon trust him as much as his country does.
