Transfer Market Buzz: Salah to Fenerbahçe and Premier League Moves
The transfer window has not yet opened, but the market is already crackling. From Istanbul to Barcelona, from Manchester to Madrid, the game behind the game is in full swing.
Salah and Fenerbahçe: A blockbuster in waiting
In Turkey, they are acting like the deal is done. According to A Spor, Mohamed Salah has given the green light to a move to Fenerbahçe, with the club putting a staggering $23.5 million (£17.5 million) per year on the table.
That figure still falls just short of what he is walking away from at Liverpool, but the intent is clear: Fenerbahçe want a global star to reshape their project. If Salah truly commits, it would be one of the most audacious moves of the summer.
Premier League magnet: Leão, Gordon and a new wave
The Premier League’s pull remains brutal. Rafael Leão, one of Serie A’s most electric forwards, can reportedly leave AC Milan for what is being described as a bargain fee this summer. Corriere dello Sport report that Al Hilal are circling, but the winger has set his sights on England.
Chelsea and Manchester United are both weighing bids. For a player of Leão’s profile and age, that “bargain” tag will not last long.
Bayern Munich, meanwhile, are trying to raid England rather than resist it. TalkSPORT say the German giants have agreed personal terms with Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon. The problem is the fee. Newcastle want more than $100 million (£75 million), and Bayern know they are not alone in this race, with Arsenal also in the hunt. Newcastle, under pressure to balance the books, look certain to get their price.
At the other end of the market, Brentford, Crystal Palace, Fulham and West Ham United are all tracking towering Metz striker Pape Moussa Fall. The 21-year-old has impressed on loan in Belgium, and TEAMtalk report that a Premier League move is now firmly in play. This is the kind of profile English clubs love: young, physical, with upside.
Chelsea, United and a midfield reshuffle
Chelsea and Manchester United are locked together on several fronts. SportsBoom report that both clubs have joined the chase for Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, with Tottenham Hotspur also lurking in the background. Scott, a boyhood Spurs fan, suddenly finds himself at the centre of a three-way tug-of-war.
There is more. CaughtOffside claim Sporting CP’s Morten Hjulmand is another target for both Arsenal and United, with the Dane emerging as one of the most coveted holding midfielders in Europe. Whoever moves first may dictate the rest of the market in that position.
The intrigue at Stamford Bridge runs deeper. Fichajes report that Xabi Alonso, front-runner for the Chelsea job, wants Real Madrid’s Arda Güler as a key piece of his rebuild. Güler has been unsettled by off-field tensions at the Bernabéu, and the prospect of reuniting with Alonso has clear appeal. If Alonso lands in London and Güler follows, Chelsea’s midfield could look very different very quickly.
Liverpool’s goalkeeping dilemma and City’s quiet power play
At Liverpool, the uncertainty is in goal. TuttoJuve report that if Alisson leaves for Juventus, Liverpool are reluctant to pin their future on Giorgi Mamardashvili. Instead, they are prepared to move for Paris Saint-Germain’s Lucas Chevalier as a replacement. One decision from Alisson could trigger a chain reaction across three major clubs.
Across the city, Manchester City are doing what they do best: locking down their core. Matteo Moretto reports that Rodri is edging closer to a new contract, with no formal interest yet arriving from Real Madrid. For City, keeping the best holding midfielder in the world is as important as any new signing.
United, by contrast, are in buying mode at the back. Corriere dello Sport say they are readying an offer of $59 million (€50 million, £43 million) for AC Milan centre-back Strahinja Pavlović. A major outlay, but one that underlines how aggressively they intend to reshape their defence.
Barcelona rip up the plan
In Spain, Barcelona are preparing a radical change of course. El Nacional report that the club are ready to abandon their pursuit of a new striker altogether. The idea is bold: hand Lamine Yamal a central role in attack and divert the funds to a new right winger instead.
SPORT add that Ez Abde of Real Betis is unlikely to be that winger. Barcelona had capped their interest at $35 million (€30 million), but rival bids from Aston Villa and Newcastle have pushed his price beyond their comfort zone. For a club still wrestling with financial limits, the margin for error is slim.
Robert Lewandowski, the man Yamal would be edging past in the pecking order, is nearing a decision of his own. Meczyki report that the veteran striker has offers from the Chicago Fire and Porto, but is leaning towards a move to Saudi Arabia. If he goes, it will mark the end of an era and accelerate Barcelona’s shift towards youth.
Real Madrid’s winger hunt and Endrick’s return
Real Madrid, never content to watch from the sidelines, are chasing a superstar winger of their own. Fichajes claim they are assembling a swap deal to tempt Juventus into parting with Kenan Yıldız, with Brahim Díaz and Gonzalo García both offered in exchange. It is a typically ambitious Madrid play: two talents for one potential star.
At centre-back, Galatasaray have their eyes on the Bernabéu as well. Habertürk report that Antonio Rüdiger has been identified as their preferred alternative if they cannot persuade Liverpool to sell Virgil van Dijk. That is a high bar, but it shows the scale of Galatasaray’s ambition.
Then there is Endrick. Globo Esporte state that once his loan with Lyon ends, he will head straight back to Real Madrid, potentially as soon as Monday. He plans to use Madrid’s training facilities to stay sharp before the World Cup, though he will remain separate from Álvaro Arbeloa’s first-team group until preseason begins. The countdown to his full integration has already started.
The money is moving. The names are huge. And this is only the early noise. What happens when the window actually opens?
