Serie A Transfer Window Grades: Insights and Predictions

The transfer window in Italy closed in a blur of late-night calls, frantic paperwork, and nervous refreshes of club websites. When the dust finally settled, the 20 Serie A sides were left with the squads that will define their season – for better or worse.

Judging a Calciomercato is always a dangerous game. What looks like a masterstroke in September can feel like a costly mistake by Christmas. A “statement signing” might flop, while a low-key arrival quietly becomes the heartbeat of a team. Directors get hailed as geniuses one month and questioned the next.

That uncertainty is part of the theatre. Every club steps into the new campaign convinced it has a plan, a vision, a logic to the deals done or the deals resisted. Some have clearly traded with a sharper eye than others, trimming squads, balancing books, and still emerging stronger. Others appear to have gambled heavily on reputation and hope.

Nobody can say for sure which approach will pay off until the whistle blows week after week. Big names might fade. Unknowns might explode. Injuries, tactics, and sheer luck will all twist the narrative.

For now, though, all we can do is look at the business on paper and call it as we see it. With that in mind, here are my marks out of 10 for every team lining up in Serie A this season – a snapshot of who impressed, who hesitated, and who may already be living dangerously.
