No chance for journalists to test the temperature of Mourinho’s return.

The Real Madrid president has decided to change how the club presents its new faces this summer, opting for private ceremonies instead of the grand, public showcases that have defined much of his presidency. For a club that built an entire era around the spectacle of the “Galácticos”, it is a jarring shift.

In recent years, world-class signings have been rolled out in front of tens of thousands at the Bernabéu. Two years ago, Kylian Mbappé’s arrival turned the stadium into a festival, the club opening its doors so fans could welcome the French star in person.

That scene is gone. At least for now.

The new policy will apply to all of this summer’s signings, including Yan Diomande and Marc Cucurella. Diomande is one of the standout additions to the squad and, according to reports, the most expensive signing in the club’s history apart from Eden Hazard. Under the old Real Madrid, he would almost certainly have walked out onto the pitch with a ball at his feet and cameras flashing. Under the new one, he slips in quietly.

Pérez’s board chose to enforce the new approach from the moment Mourinho set foot back in the building. Fresh from winning the latest club elections and reshaping the squad, the president has handed the Portuguese coach the keys to the sporting project — but not the stage that usually comes with it.

Mourinho did not speak during the ceremony. Real Madrid’s official social media accounts barely acknowledged the event. For a coach whose every word has historically dominated headlines in Spain, England, and Italy, the silence was deafening.
