Mohamed Salah's Future and Rashford's Decision Impact English Football
Mohamed Salah’s next move, Marcus Rashford’s resolve and Liverpool’s search for width are driving a restless summer at the top of English football, with several clubs quietly trying to reshape their squads before the new season closes in.
Salah future still wide open
Mohamed Salah has left Liverpool, but the picture of where he will play next remains blurred. His agent, Remy Abbas, has offered only the bare bones of an update, and even that underlines how delicately this saga is being handled.
“We still do not know where Mohamed will play next season but we may know very soon,” he said, stressing that they will not entertain clubs the player has no desire to represent, “just for the sake of noise.”
No destination named. No hint of preference. Just the clear message that Salah will choose carefully and that any talks are being filtered strictly through his wishes. For a forward of his stature, the market will wait.
Rashford turns down exit routes
At Old Trafford, the story is not about who might come in, but who is refusing to go.
Marcus Rashford has reportedly rejected a string of offers to leave Manchester United this summer, according to The Athletic. Some proposals are said to have included higher wages than his current deal, yet the forward has opted to stay put.
He remains under contract until 2028, a long commitment by any measure, even if he has not played for United since 2024. For a player whose form and role have been under intense scrutiny, turning down lucrative exits sends a pointed message: Rashford is not ready to give up on United, or on himself, just yet.
Liverpool widen the net at full-back and out wide
Liverpool’s rebuild is gathering layers. With a new Premier League season approaching, the club is working through a list of targets on the flanks.
Djed Spence has been added to their catalogue of potential full-back signings, according to Anfield Watch. Spence, who impressed with England at the World Cup, has also attracted interest from Everton, but Liverpool are weighing him up as they look to add another option at the back.
On the opposite side of the pitch, the hunt for a winger is becoming a test of financial realism. TEAMtalk report that Liverpool are considering Bournemouth’s Rayan as an alternative to Bradley Barcola and Michael Olise.
PSG are said to want around £128m for Barcola. Bayern Munich, for their part, value Olise at a staggering £170m, even though the winger has reportedly asked to leave. Those figures drag Liverpool’s gaze towards Rayan, one of several names on their list and a far more attainable profile in a market that is threatening to spiral.
Newcastle move for Rushworth
Newcastle United are also busy, though at the other end of the pitch.
According to Sussex World, they are considering a move for Brighton goalkeeper Carl Rushworth. The 23-year-old has already been linked with a return to Coventry City after a successful loan spell last season, but Newcastle are thought to be ready to challenge the Sky Blues for his signature.
For a club that has been steadily strengthening its spine, prising a promising keeper away from Brighton and Coventry’s grasp would be a pointed move towards long-term planning.
Villa close in on Joao Gomes
At Aston Villa, the work is more advanced.
Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes is set to undergo a medical at Villa Park, ESPN report, with a deal worth around £34m agreed between the clubs. The Brazilian playmaker has already left Wolves’ training camp in Portugal to complete the formalities of the transfer.
Villa, now a Champions League club, are building a squad to live at that level. Securing a combative, technically sharp midfielder from a Premier League rival is exactly the kind of statement Unai Emery’s side have started to make with increasing regularity.
Ipswich eye Fatawu as Leicester brace for exits
Ipswich Town, newly promoted and eager not to be overwhelmed by the step up, are moving with intent.
The Telegraph report that they are interested in Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu and have already made an approach for the Ghanaian forward. Fatawu is widely expected to leave the King Power Stadium after Leicester’s relegation to League One, a drop that almost guarantees an exodus of top talent.
For Ipswich, landing a direct, fearless winger with recent top-level experience would be a bold way to announce their return.
United’s midfield puzzle and a Rashford twist
Manchester United’s transfer planning stretches well beyond Rashford’s future.
TEAMtalk claim the club are internally discussing a move for Fulham midfielder Sander Berge, viewing him as one of their key targets this summer. If a deal is struck, Berge would become their fifth signing of the window, following Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, Karl Darlow and Cristian Orozco.
There is another intriguing strand. Mundo Deportivo report that United proposed signing Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal as part of a potential swap involving Rashford. The expectation, at one stage, was that Rashford would join the Catalan club on a permanent basis, but Barcelona instead chose to move for Anthony Gordon.
With Rashford’s release clause now expired, any future deal would require direct negotiation with United rather than a simple trigger. The window is still open, but the dynamics have shifted.
The market is moving fast, the numbers are swelling, and the decisions being taken now will echo deep into the season. Some players are already on the road. Others, like Salah and Rashford, are choosing their next step with care. The question is who will look smartest when the first whistle blows.
