Arsenal's Summer Transfer Plans Amid Saliba Injury Concerns

Arsenal are bracing for unwelcome news on William Saliba – and the transfer machine in north London is already whirring into life.

The France defender was forced off in his country’s World Cup semi-final defeat after recent struggles with a back problem, and the club are now waiting to discover whether their defensive lynchpin will need time on the sidelines. At 25, with heavy minutes behind him and the season’s decisive stretch ahead, any setback would hit hard.

Arsenal, though, are not standing still.

Arsenal circle Konsa as Saliba concern grows

Ezri Konsa has moved sharply up their list. The Aston Villa centre-back, now an England international and a key figure in Unai Emery’s side, has again been linked with a switch to the Emirates.

According to The Guardian, Arsenal have formally expressed interest in Konsa, viewing him as a serious option should Saliba’s back issue develop into something more prolonged. It is not yet clear how long Saliba might be out, but the club are treating the situation with caution.

Konsa would not come cheap. Nor would he arrive as a squad filler. This is the profile of signing Arsenal make when they sense a title window opening and refuse to gamble on fitness.

Rogers next on the list

Konsa is not the only Aston Villa player on Arsenal’s radar.

Morgan Rogers, the 23-year-old attacker who has long been admired in north London, is expected to be the subject of a formal bid once his World Cup campaign wraps up. Arsenal have tracked him for some time and now see a clean route to the negotiating table.

Rogers offers versatility across the front line, something Mikel Arteta has consistently valued. With his international commitments nearly done, Arsenal are said to be moving from interest to action.

Tzolis deal edging closer

One deal is already well down the line.

Arsenal have agreed terms with Club Brugge to bring in winger Cristos Tzolis, a move that now looks a matter of final details rather than persuasion. The wide man would add another direct, high-energy option to an attack already stacked with pace and movement.

With Tzolis nearing the door, and Rogers and Konsa both under serious consideration, Arsenal’s summer is beginning to take a clear shape: depth, flexibility, and insurance against any repeat of last season’s injury-induced wobble.

Barcelona push for Alvarez as Arsenal watch on

Not every battle will be fought in England.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has again underlined his desire to sign Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, a player Arsenal are also keen on. Laporta’s repeated public stance only adds heat to what could become one of the window’s more intriguing tug-of-wars.

Arsenal’s interest is real, but Barcelona’s need for a headline forward and Laporta’s insistence keep the Catalan club loudly in the frame.

Villa move quickly in the market

While Arsenal ponder moves for Konsa and Rogers, Aston Villa are busy reinforcing their own ranks.

They are close to sealing a £38m deal for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes, a transfer that would inject further bite and energy into Emery’s midfield. At the same time, Villa have agreed personal terms with AC Milan left-back Pervis Estupinan, according to Fabrizio Romano, as they look to strengthen their options on the left side of defence.

If Konsa or Rogers are to be prised away, Villa will at least be doing so from a position of growing squad depth.

Forest ready big Bergvall bid

Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, are preparing to spend big in midfield.

They are set to launch a £45m bid for Spurs’ Sweden international Lucas Bergvall after seeing an earlier offer rejected, according to BBC Sport. Forest still want another midfielder on top of Bergvall, underlining the scale of their rebuild and their determination not to flirt with danger in the table again.

Ambition is not in short supply at the City Ground.

Newcastle hunt two new goalkeepers

Up north, Newcastle United are working on a double move between the posts.

Talks are under way over deals for Brighton goalkeeper Carl Rushworth and Manchester City’s James Trafford, as reported by The Daily Mail. Two young, highly rated keepers, two statements about succession planning and competition for places in a squad that wants to stay in the European conversation.

Back in north London, though, the mood hinges on one scan and one back.

If Saliba is fine, Arsenal’s summer looks like refinement. If he is not, their pursuit of Konsa and the rest of this carefully plotted shortlist could define how far they can really go this season.
