Mason Greenwood Rejects Saudi Arabia Offers, Eyes Fenerbahce Move

Mason Greenwood has turned his back on Saudi Arabia, but his time at Olympique de Marseille is still drawing to a close.

The 24-year-old has rejected lucrative offers from Al Ahli, Al Qadsiah and Al Diriyah, according to Sacha Tavolieri, despite strong financial pressure from the Gulf. The money was there. The interest was real. Greenwood simply said no.

Signs of a split with OM are now hard to ignore. After two seasons in Marseille, local outlet La Provence report that Greenwood has already handed back the keys to his house in Aix, a small but telling detail that underlines the direction of travel. He may not yet have a new club, but he is clearly preparing for life away from the south of France.

The escape route, though, looks set to run through Istanbul rather than Jeddah or Riyadh. L’Équipe report that Greenwood has reached an agreement on personal terms with Fenerbahce. Salary, contract length, the framework of his role – all understood to be in place between player and club.

Transfer Fee Negotiations

One major hurdle remains: OM.

Marseille and Fenerbahce are yet to find common ground on a transfer fee, and that is where the deal currently stalls. OM value Greenwood at around €50m, a figure that sets the tone for every negotiation and instantly narrows the field of realistic bidders.

Across the continent, AS Roma are watching. The Serie A club have registered their interest, and Greenwood is thought to be open to the move, attracted by the prospect of a fresh start in the Italian capital. Roma, though, face the same problem as Fenerbahce: they have not reached an agreement with Marseille, and OM show no sign of backing away from their valuation.

So the picture is clear. Greenwood has shut the door on Saudi Arabia, packed up his life in Provence, and shaken hands on terms with Fenerbahce. Roma hover in the background, tempted but constrained.

Now it comes down to who is willing to meet Marseille’s price – and how long OM can hold their nerve in a market that knows exactly what they want.
