Martin Sherif Charged by FA Over Betting Breaches

Everton forward Martin Sherif has been charged by the Football Association over alleged breaches of betting regulations spanning a 15-month period.

The 20-year-old is accused of placing 61 bets on football matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026.

In a brief statement, the FA confirmed: “Martin Sherif of Everton FC has been charged with breaching the FA's betting rules. It's alleged that the player breached FA Rule E1.2 in respect of 61 bets placed on football matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026. Martin Sherif has until Monday 17 August to provide a response.”

That deadline now looms over a young career that had been steadily gathering pace.

Born in Liberia, Sherif joined Everton’s academy in 2019 and worked his way through the age groups before beginning to train with the first team in early 2025. His progress earned him a move into senior football last season, when he joined League One side Rotherham United on loan.

He made 10 appearances for Rotherham, scoring twice, but his momentum stalled. A series of injuries cut short his spell and Everton recalled him in December.

Sherif went back out in February, this time to Port Vale for the remainder of the campaign. He again found the net twice, this time across 17 League One appearances, as Vale slipped to relegation.

Now the focus shifts from development and game time to discipline and rulebooks. Sherif must submit his response by 17 August, with his next steps likely to shape not just his season, but the direction of a career still in its early chapters.
