Marcus Rashford Rejects Fenerbahce Move to Stay at Manchester United

Marcus Rashford has turned his back on a high-profile move to Fenerbahce and is set to stay at Manchester United for the 2026/27 season, according to The Times.

The Turkish club, buoyed by Champions League qualification and keen to make a statement in the market, pushed hard to lure the 28-year-old to Istanbul as their marquee signing. The prospect of European nights on the Bosphorus held obvious appeal on paper. Rashford, though, has shut the door on a switch to the Super Lig.

That stance marks a sharp shift from the start of the summer. Then, the forward was widely viewed as being ready to walk away from his boyhood club in search of a fresh start.

His future has been under the microscope ever since his productive loan spell at Barcelona last season. For much of the early window, Rashford was understood to be desperate for a permanent move away from Old Trafford. Now the mood music has changed. The urgency to leave has eased, replaced by a determination to fight for his place back in Manchester.

With the transfer deadline looming next Tuesday, Rashford is concentrating on forcing his way back into Michael Carrick’s plans. Inside Carrington, his attitude and conditioning in pre-season have drawn praise, and Carrick has not been shy about saying so.

The forward’s ideal scenario had been a return to the Nou Camp. Barcelona held a £26m release clause in his contract and looked, for a time, like the obvious escape route. That path closed when the Catalan club decided not to trigger the option, choosing instead to raid the Premier League elsewhere. Anthony Gordon arrived from Newcastle United, while Karim Adeyemi joined from Borussia Dortmund, ending any realistic prospect of Rashford heading back to La Liga.

Once that door slammed shut, the market around Rashford thinned quickly. His substantial £325,000-a-week wages have always narrowed the list of clubs able to contemplate a permanent deal. With only days left in the window and no suitable offer on the table, United are now content to keep one of their most recognisable homegrown players.

The personal dynamic between Rashford and Carrick has become central to this late U-turn. Rashford came off the bench in United’s recent defeat to Hull City, replacing Patrick Dorgu in the second half, and his work on the training pitch has resonated with the head coach.

Carrick summed up his view on the forward’s return by saying: “It's been pretty obvious since Marcus came back training with Kobbie [Mainoo] and Licha [Martinez] pretty much in Dublin that he's come back fantastically well, you know.”

That endorsement points towards a meaningful role for Rashford as United gear up to face Ipswich Town on Sunday. The fixture carries added weight for the striker: it will be his first appearance at Old Trafford since December 2024.

Across 427 games for the club, Rashford has scored 138 goals and remained a prominent figure in the dressing room through multiple managerial eras. His decision to stay hands Carrick an experienced international in the final third, strengthening a squad that finished third in the Premier League last season and now expects to turn promise into something more tangible.
