Manchester United Pursues 45-Goal Wonderkid Blake Henry

Manchester United’s recruitment drive in the academy ranks is gathering pace – and this time their sights are set on one of the most prolific young strikers in the country.

United are in talks to sign 14-year-old Blake Henry from Derby County after the teenager smashed in 45 goals across all levels last season, a return that has lit up youth scouting reports up and down England. The England Under-15 international is expected to leave Derby this summer, with United currently leading the chase for his signature.

They are not alone. Manchester City have also tracked Henry, but United are understood to be at the front of the queue, pushing hard to add him to a youth set-up they are actively reshaping.

What makes Henry stand out is not just the volume of goals, but the stage on which he has already appeared. Still only 14, he featured in the U18 Premier League this season, becoming one of the youngest players to play in the competition just a couple of months after his 14th birthday. His involvement for Derby’s Under-18s was brief – 24 minutes spread across a couple of games – yet his output across all age groups and competitions underlined his status as one of the most exciting attacking prospects in the country.

If the move goes through, Derby will be entitled to compensation. That fee will not be plucked from thin air. It will be calculated based on Henry’s age, how long he has been in Derby’s academy, the category of the academy signing him, and the costs invested in his development and training.

The ideal scenario for all parties is a negotiated agreement between the clubs. If that proves impossible, the case will be referred to a Professional Football Compensation Committee tribunal, which would then set the final figure and terms.

United’s pursuit of Henry fits a broader pattern. This summer, the club have been actively assessing talent in rival academies, intent on bolstering their own youth ranks with some of the brightest prospects available. In Blake Henry, they see a striker whose numbers already belong to a different age group – and whose next step could be at Old Trafford.
