Lucas Bergvall Signs New Contract with Tottenham

Tottenham have secured a key piece of their future, with Lucas Bergvall signing a new contract to stay at the club after a summer of heavy speculation over his next move.

The 20-year-old midfielder has already become a fixture in north London, racking up 80 appearances in all competitions for Spurs and forcing his way onto the international stage with 14 senior caps for Sweden, including a role at this summer’s World Cup.

That progress inevitably drew attention. Nottingham Forest and Newcastle were both keen to tempt him away, and his name sat near the top of several recruitment lists as the window opened. The tug of the Premier League market was real.

“I think we’re building something great here,” Bergvall said after signing. “It’s an exciting time for the club and that’s why I’m happy to extend my contract.

“Personally, my goal is to produce more for the team – performances, goals and assists – to help as much as I can. I’m getting better every day in training and I’m looking forward to what will be a really good season ahead.”

For Tottenham, it is not just about numbers on a contract. It is about the profile of the player they are tying down: young, already experienced, and ambitious enough to want more responsibility.

Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi underlined exactly that, pointing to Bergvall’s attitude on the training ground as the foundation for his rise.

“Every day in training you can see Lucas’ desire to learn, improve and push himself to the highest level,” De Zerbi said. “Lucas is brave, he wants responsibility and has the personality to play in big moments.

“I believe his best football is still ahead of him and we want to give Lucas the platform to reach his full potential.”
