Ligue 1 Round 2 Predictions: Early Pressure and Statements

The predictions battle is back for the 2026/27 Ligue 1 season, and it’s already tight. After the opening round, GFFN editor-in-chief Luke Entwistle edges ahead with 5 points, while sub-editor Bastien Cheval sits on 3. Seven days. That’s all PSG have had to try to change the mood.

Last Friday, Luis Enrique’s side stumbled out of the blocks, held by Stade Rennais and forced to lean on a second-half brace from Ferran Torres just to escape with a point. The performance looked like a team still shaking off pre-season rust, which is no surprise given yet another truncated summer. The opposition didn’t exactly offer them a gentle reintroduction either.

Now comes another demanding trip: north to Lille, another club with Champions League ambitions and a stadium that tends to sniff out weakness.

PSG arrive without Ousmane Dembélé, a notable absence in a side already searching for fluency. But Lille have their own headache. Matias Fernandez-Pardo won’t feature while his transfer saga drags on, and his absence leaves a sizeable hole in Davide Ancelotti’s plans. Ayoubb Bouaddi has departed as expected, and in that respect LOSC have already mentally moved on, but losing Fernandez-Pardo for this kind of fixture is different.

Lille’s opening day brought promise without drama. Under Ancelotti Jr., they eased past SCO Angers 2-0, rarely needing to hit top gear. It was efficient, controlled, and encouraging. This, though, is something else entirely. A primetime test against the champions, under the lights, with a rookie head coach on the touchline. For Davide Ancelotti, this is the night the scrutiny really begins.

Both Luke and Bastien see PSG just having too much, even if it’s tight. They’re united on a 2-1 away win.

Luke leans towards strong away performances from the big hitters, backing Lens to score freely at Strasbourg and Rennes to dismantle Le Mans. He also sees Monaco taking control of their clash with Marseille, and Lyon edging newly promoted Le Havre.

The margins are already fine. One late goal here, one stubborn defence there, and the leaderboard could flip by Sunday night.
