As August creeps toward its climax, Juventus find themselves in a familiar place: staring down the final weeks of the mercato with work still to do and little margin for error after a sixth-place finish that did not sit well in Turin.

According to Tuttosport, Juventus and Lucumí have reached an agreement on personal terms. The Colombian has said yes to a five-year contract worth €2.5 million per season, with a further €1 million available in bonuses. For a player on Bologna wages, that is a significant leap, a clear sign of how seriously Juventus view him.

It also underlines how seriously Lucumí views Juventus.

Multiple reports in Italy suggest the defender is holding out specifically for a move to the Allianz Stadium, turning down richer offers elsewhere in order to keep the path to Turin clear. At a time when many players follow the money, Lucumí is betting on the shirt.

Bologna hold their line

The stand-off, though, is not just about the player’s will. Bologna have their own stance, and it is not a charitable one.

With Lucumí’s €28 million buyout clause expiring in mid-July, the Emilia-Romagna club are now free to dictate terms. The current asking price is reported to be up to €25 million, a figure that reflects both his importance to the team and the late-summer inflation that always grips the market.

So far, that price and the timing have complicated Juventus’ move. The club’s hierarchy know they cannot keep stacking centre-backs without first clearing space and raising funds.

Turned backs on Turkey

The most striking element in this saga is not just who wants Lucumí, but who he has already turned away.

Galatasaray and Besiktas have both been on the trail, armed with more lucrative financial packages than Juventus can currently put on the table. Besiktas, in particular, offered an intriguing reunion: Vincenzo Italiano, Lucumí’s former coach at Bologna, is now in charge there and knows better than most how to use him.

Juventus, by all accounts, need to move a defender out before they can move Lucumí in. The names are on the table: Federico Gatti, Lloyd Kelly, Juan Cabal, or another member of the defensive unit could be sacrificed to unlock the deal.

Until a sale materialises, Lucumí is stuck in limbo — still a Bologna player, already aligned with Juventus on personal terms, suspended between two projects as the clock ticks toward deadline day.
