Jaissle Optimistic on Schär, Livramento, and Miley as Newcastle Seek Reinforcements

Newcastle United may have left Edinburgh nursing a 3-1 defeat to Everton, but Matthias Jaissle walked away with something more valuable than a pre-season result: clarity on his injury list and quiet confidence in the transfer market.

The head coach delivered an encouraging bulletin on Fabian Schär, Tino Livramento and Lewis Miley, with all three edging closer to a return.

Injury Updates

Schär, out since January, is the closest. The experienced centre-back is now on the brink of rejoining full team training.

"He's on the way back now," Jaissle said after the game in Scotland. "Hopefully in the next days he will be included in the team training, and then we need to see if he gets some minutes already in the weekend."

For a defence that has had to improvise through absences, the prospect of Schär back in the mix within days is a significant boost.

Livramento and Miley are not far behind. Both are moving through their rehab programmes and, crucially, are now being spoken about in the same short-term bracket as Schär.

"A bit of the same, I would say, like with Fabian," Jaissle explained. "Also we're hoping that in the next days they can be integrated in the team sessions, and hopefully also will get some minutes then."

The message was clear: Newcastle’s treatment room is beginning to empty just as the season looms into view.

Recruitment Plans

Off the pitch, Jaissle also struck a firm tone on recruitment. He expects more arrivals before the transfer window shuts, even if he is not about to broadcast the club’s plans.

"I will be always consistent with my approach," he said. "We handle these things internally, we are aware of what we need, and as you know, there's still some time."

Injured pillars returning, new faces expected, and a coach insisting the plan is under control. Pre-season defeats can be forgotten quickly. What happens in the next few weeks will be much harder to ignore.
