Ismael Saibari Impresses on Bayern Munich Debut

Ismael Saibari needed only a few minutes in a Bayern Munich shirt to show why the club pushed to bring him to Bavaria.

Thrown on in the 71st minute of a pre-season friendly against Leipzig, with Bayern already in control of a 3-1 win, the Moroccan midfielder wasted no time turning a routine outing into a small personal statement. Ten minutes later, he slipped the kind of decisive ball every new signing dreams of producing, laying on Bayern’s third for Jamal Musiala in the 81st minute.

The club’s reaction was instant. Bayern’s official channels spent Saturday hailing the debutant, rolling out welcome messages and highlighting the assist that capped a sharp, confident cameo. For a first touch of life in Munich, it was about as clean as it gets.

The night carried a sting, though. Musiala, who had finished Saibari’s pass, left the pitch in the 86th minute after suffering a sudden setback, cutting short his evening just as Bayern’s attack looked fully in sync.

Saibari arrived this summer from PSV Eindhoven, signing a long-term deal that ties him to the German champions until 2031. Bayern moved for a player whose stock rose sharply on the international stage: the 23-year-old impressed with Morocco at the 2026 World Cup, scoring three goals before an injury ruled him out of the quarter-final defeat to France (2-0).

That same injury had delayed his integration in Munich. He only rejoined full group training a few days before the Leipzig game, having worked individually as he completed his recovery from the World Cup setback.

So this was more than just a run-out in a friendly. It was a first glimpse of how Saibari’s World Cup form might translate to the Bundesliga stage, and an early hint that Bayern’s latest long-term bet has both the confidence and the quality to carry the weight of that 2031 contract.
