Inter Milan Pursues Curtis Jones: Liverpool's Firm Stance

Inter Milan have come back for Curtis Jones. Liverpool’s answer, for now, is the same: pay the full price or don’t bother.

The Serie A champions have renewed their push for the midfielder as they look to bolster Simone Inzaghi’s squad ahead of another title defence. An opening offer of around €25 million went in earlier in the summer. Liverpool rejected it without blinking and made their stance clear — Jones is closer to a €40 million footballer in their eyes.

Inter have not walked away. Working through intermediaries, they have returned with an improved proposal of €35 million. It still isn’t enough. Liverpool are holding the line.

This is not a negotiation built on bluffs. Jones is into the final year of his current deal at Anfield, yet the club is prepared to let the clock run rather than cave on valuation. Officials are said to be ready to risk losing him for nothing in 2027 instead of accepting a fee they feel falls short for one of the longest-serving members of the first team.

Liverpool’s argument is simple: the market has already spoken. Internally, they point to Tottenham Hotspur’s €40 million move for Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid earlier this year as a reference point. If Gallagher commands that figure, they see no reason to move off a similar number for Jones.

For Inter, the admiration is longstanding. The Nerazzurri tested the waters in January with a loan proposal that included an option to buy. Liverpool dismissed it almost out of hand. This summer’s approach is more serious, built around a permanent transfer and driven by a desire to refresh a midfield that has just powered another Scudetto.

Jones, meanwhile, remains a symbol of Liverpool’s pathway from academy to first team. He has been on the club’s books since childhood and has grown into a trusted squad figure since his senior debut in 2019. More than 220 appearances tell their own story: a player managers lean on, whether from the start or off the bench.

His value to Liverpool is not wrapped up in headline numbers alone. Coaches prize his technical security, his ability to protect the ball in tight spaces and his comfort across several midfield roles. That blend of control and versatility has helped him stay relevant even as Liverpool have repeatedly reshaped their engine room.

There is, notably, no active rush to sign a new contract. Talks over an extension are not underway, but Liverpool are understood to be open to fresh terms if the right framework emerges. That possibility hangs in the background while the transfer noise grows louder.

For now, the equation is brutally clear. Inter want Jones. Jones is admired in Milan. But Liverpool will only unlock the door if the Italian champions are willing to hit their number.
