Harvey Barnes Stars as Newcastle United Edges West Brom in Carabao Cup

Harvey Barnes came off the bench to haunt his former club, firing a second-half brace as Newcastle United edged a wild 3-2 Carabao Cup tie against West Brom.

The night had started with a different script. Isaac Price stunned St James’ Park with a superb free-kick, bending the ball beyond the wall and into the corner to put the Baggies in front. For a spell, Newcastle looked rattled.

Then their debutant stepped in.

West Brom refused to fold. With 13 minutes left, the contest flipped again. Price, already the scorer of a free-kick to remember, held his nerve from the penalty spot to make it 2-2 and silence the home crowd for a second time.

Four minutes later, Barnes answered.

Finding space and composure when it mattered most, the winger buried his second of the night, restoring Newcastle’s lead and, this time, keeping it. Against his former club, he had become the difference-maker.

The drama on the pitch followed a statement off it. Before kick-off, Newcastle unveiled new signing Nico González to the St James’ Park crowd, another addition as Jaissle continues to reshape his squad before the transfer window closes.

By full-time, though, it was Barnes’ name ringing loudest as Newcastle marched into the third round.
