Ferran Torres Joins PSG from Barcelona: World Cup Star's Transfer

Ferran Torres, Spain’s World Cup match-winner, has completed a move to European champions Paris St-Germain from Barcelona, signing a long-term deal that runs until 2031.

The 26-year-old forward joins for a reported fee of about 50m euros (£42.7m), a price driven up by his exploits both in Qatar and in La Liga. Torres struck the extra-time winner against Argentina last month to deliver Spain their second men’s World Cup title, a moment that pushed him firmly into the elite bracket of European forwards.

He arrives in Paris on the back of his best club season to date. For Barcelona, Torres hit 21 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions, adding three assists and playing a major role in the club’s La Liga title triumph. His movement, direct running and knack for decisive goals turned him into one of Xavi’s key attacking weapons.

Now he links up with a familiar figure. PSG are coached by Luis Enrique, the former Barcelona boss and the man who first handed Torres his Spain debut. Under Enrique, Torres has become a cornerstone of the national team, scoring 25 goals in 65 appearances and thriving in high-pressure games. The reunion in Paris feels anything but accidental.

PSG have dominated Europe recently. They are back-to-back Champions League winners and on Wednesday added the Uefa Super Cup with a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa, another piece of silverware for a squad built to rule the continent. Into that environment steps a forward who already knows how it feels to decide the biggest matches.

Torres is the second major attacking signing of PSG’s summer after Maghnes Akliouche’s arrival from Monaco, a clear signal that the French champions intend to refresh rather than relax. The front line that already terrified defences across Europe now gains another World Cup hero, a player entering his prime years.

For Barcelona, the move ends Torres’ spell at the club that began in 2022 after his switch from Manchester City. He leaves with a league title and a reputation enhanced, but with PSG offering a longer contract and a central role in a team at the peak of its powers, the pull of Paris proved decisive.

There is another subplot. PSG could yet lose Bradley Barcola in this window, with Liverpool keen on the young forward. If that pursuit gathers pace, Torres’ arrival may quickly shift from luxury to necessity in a squad that refuses to stand still.
