The chase for the 2026-27 award has already burst into life. On August 21, Kai Havertz struck the campaign’s first goal, stealing an early march on the rest of the league. His lead barely lasted. Bukayo Saka joined him on the scoresheet within minutes, a reminder that this is a marathon dressed up as a sprint, stretched across 380 matches and countless storylines.
