Danilo's Final Chapter with Flamengo: A 2027 Farewell

Danilo has set a clear date for the final chapter of his career – and he wants it written in red and black.

Speaking at Ninho do Urubu, the veteran defender revealed he finally has the headspace to discuss his future with Flamengo after years dominated by international duty and the demands of a World Cup cycle.

“In 2026, I had very little time to reflect and assess; there was a World Cup in between, and at 35 years old, I had to dedicate myself immensely physically to measure up and be well prepared,” he said, explaining how the grind of the national team schedule delayed any serious contract talks.

Now, with that storm behind him, the picture is sharper.

“Now is when I've had more peace of mind to think about it. Flamengo and I have been talking, and I hope 2027 is the year we can be together so I can play the final year of my career.”

No drama. No brinkmanship. Just a veteran plotting his last season.

The former Real Madrid and Manchester City full-back underlined that negotiations with Flamengo are moving smoothly, with no stand-offs or stumbling blocks on either side. Both parties, he stressed, are aligned on what comes next.

“We have spoken very calmly. Both sides share the desire to move forward, to put together another beautiful year, and a year where I can truly say ‘this is the last year of my career’ and finish at the club of my heart, in a project I believed in and that has been working.”

For Danilo, this is not just about a farewell lap. It is about closing the circle where it began, at his boyhood club, with a team he feels is on the right track.

“I don't think there are any obstacles preventing this from happening,” he added. “And hopefully in 2027 we can be together, finish my career at Flamengo, and, God willing, win a major trophy – that would be wonderful.”

One more year, one more push, and a chance to leave with a trophy in his hands and Flamengo on his chest.
